History of the Washington Township Fire Department

Fire protection in Washington Township was first organized in 1919 with a bucket brigade in the Trilby area.

Although much of Washington Township has disappeared through annexation, we continue over 80 years of tradition of service to our community shown to us by our brother firefighters from the Point Place, Trilby, Alexis and Shoreland Volunteer Fire Departments.

We honor their memory and hope that they would be proud of what the department has to offer today.

Click the links below for photographs and more information on each of the four volunteer departments that at one time covered Washington Township.

The History section of WTFD.net is dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant Leonard Guerin of the Trilby Fire Department

who was killed in the Line of Duty on August 13, 1938.

Status Board used to keep track of WTFD apparatus that was in or out of service.
